SWIM MEETS

Swim meets are an extremely important part of swimming, and it is important for every team member to attend each one. The meets are designed to include the beginner to the experienced swimmers and are held at different swimming pools throughout the City of San Diego. This gives swimmers a chance to compete against other swimmers in the City. These fun meets help swimmers build confidence and self esteem, while developing a sense of teamwork and respect.
Swim meets are held on Saturday mornings, and last for approximately three to four hours. Please refer to the meet schedule for meet location and times.
Each swimmer has the opportunity to compete in every swim meet. Entries for the swim meet are due no later than the Wednesday prior to the swim meet. All swimmers participating in the meet must inform the coach by that day or the swimmer unfortunately will NOT swim in the meet.

MORE ON MEETS

Most of the swim meets will begin at 8:00am, swimmers must be at the specific pool at 7:30am. The warm up session will begin at 7:45am. After the warm up session, swimmers will receive their event cards informing them of their assigned event, event number, heat and lane number. It is very helpful to bring a Sharpie black marking pen to the swim meets to write event numbers on swimmer’s arm in case the card becomes lost.
Each swimmer is encouraged to work on improving their times and should emphasize this as their main goal. Improved times are better indicators of progress than the colored ribbons. Each swimmer is responsible for asking the timer for their time after each race and reporting it to the coach. It is recommended that each swimmer and parent keep track of the swimmer’s own best times on a log.
